December x Day 11
Sketch Sessions with Mixed Media
Don’t overthink it! I’ve been telling myself this at every sketch session and it seems to help. If I think too long or too hard about how to approach a sketch, or what to use vs. just getting to work, I find it hinders the process. Just start making marks and let your hand be guided by your intuition.
Friday
That’s exactly what I tried to do during the Reading Drawing Guild Sketchmas: A Muppet Christmas Carol Virtual Sketch Session. We gathered online to draw stills from the movie. What a fun way to start the weekend!
I decided to do panels with timed drawings and enjoyed using the Ecoline watercolor ink brush pens for the initial sketches followed by layering of Neocolor II and colored pencils. This seems to work well in the sketchbooks that I have vs. trying to use wetter materials.
Saturday

I joined Urban Sketchers Philadelphia on Saturday at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter & Paul and what a turnout! I have a little over an hour drive to get there and arrived in a rush but calmed down easily with the music from the ensemble and choir rehearsing. What a wonderful way to get into the holiday spirit!

I made sure to stop by one of my favorite shops in Philly - Omoi Life Goods. I picked up a few more notebooks - including this pocket-sized one from MD Paper - and a new mechanical pencil.

That was a fun sketch session with Muppets Christmas Carol, and neat how fast you were able to capture recognizable shots from the film. I’ve taken a very slow route with mine, inspired by Drew Struzan’s poster art. Hopefully I’ll have something to share soon!
